THE 2022 PERTH CONVENTION:
October 14 to 16, 2022
After check in on the Friday afternoon, a few ladies gathered for a catch-up with sisters from different States and Chapters. Later that evening we were invited to a mix and mingle dinner, where we shared lovely Indian Food and entertainment. Fun was had by the sisters when they got up and joined in some Bollywood Dancing. Thank you to Sudha Hegde from Bollywood Dancing for a fun night.
On Saturday morning Meredith and I attended the Presidents Breakfast where mutual issues were discussed along with ideas to move forward over the next few years. During the morning, guest speakers gave presentations to the sisters. Firstly, Brian Simmonds an author and artist spoke about the Swan River. He then undertook to complete a painting of the river from memory, while we listened to other guest speakers, which was then included as part of the raffle prizes later in the day. Brian Offen then spoke about the history of Perth and his books “Lost Perth” and “Perth Then and Now”.
Lindsay Miles is an author and speaker, and she spoke about zero waste/plastic free living. She has written 2 books called “Less Stuff” and “The Less Waste No Fuss Kitchen”. Lindsay was followed by Kath Mazzella, who is also an author and speaker. Kath spoke on a topic called “If I only knew” about Cancer of the Vulva. After lunch the sisters had free time to undertake sightseeing around Perth.
In the evening a formal dinner was enjoyed by all, together with some lively entertainment by Aaron Wooley, ex member of “ICE” and Kokmoko”. Aaron entertained us well, and got 90 percent of the sisters up dancing. Fun was had by all, including Lucille McDonald, who got up dancing with her walker.
After Sunday morning breakfast, Victorian Convention Committee President Meredith Swaby presented our proposal for the 2024 Convention that will be held in Melbourne CBD. This was followed by the closing ceremony, and the handing over of the Convention Lamp to Meredith. The Sisters then moved down to the waterfront where we undertook a cruise of the Swan River to Fremantle. The entertainment on the boat was very good, and the meal was delicious. At the end of the cruise we returned to the hotel to settle in for the night (for those staying in Perth) or head home, for others. Some sisters chose to go out for dinner and have a last gathering for the weekend.
It was a very successful weekend with lots of laughs, learning and social time. Thank you to our Western Australian sisters for the effort you put in for this convention.
